Privacy policy

Fretboard King is a guitar practice app. This page covers everything the app and this website do with data.

The app

No accounts, no personal information

The app has no sign-up and never asks for your name, email or any other personal details. Your practice scores and progress statistics are stored only on your device; deleting the app deletes them.

Anonymous usage analytics

To understand how the app is used and improve it, the app sends anonymous usage events to Amplitude, an analytics service. These events cover things like a practice session starting or finishing, its score, and which settings are in use. Along with events, Amplitude receives standard device information (such as device model, operating system version, language, and a randomly generated device identifier). If you submit in-app feedback, the rating, topics and any text you enter are included in those events. This data is not linked to your identity, and it is not used for advertising or shared with anyone else. Analytics do not use the advertising identifier (IDFA/AAID).

Microphone (Play It Live and the tuner)

If you use Play It Live or the built-in tuner, the app asks for microphone access so it can hear which note your guitar is playing. All pitch detection happens on your device in real time: audio is never recorded, stored or sent anywhere. Decline the permission and the app stays in tap mode; you can change your choice any time in your phone’s settings.

Notifications (optional)

If you turn on the Daily Note, the app schedules one local practice question a day on your device. No server is involved and nothing about notifications leaves your phone. Turning the setting off cancels them.

Advertising

The free app shows occasional ads between practice rounds, and may offer an optional ad you choose to watch in exchange for extra practice time. Ads are served by Google AdMob. We request non-personalized ads only: ads are selected from context (such as the app’s category and a general location inferred from your IP address), not from a profile of you. To serve and measure ads, Google receives standard device information such as device model, operating system version and IP address. See Google’s privacy policy and how Google uses data from apps. Where required (for example in the EEA and UK), you will be asked for consent before any ads are served.

Subscriptions

Fretboard King Pro is an optional auto-renewable subscription purchased through Apple’s App Store. All payment processing is handled entirely by Apple — we never see or store your payment details, name, or Apple ID. We receive only an anonymous confirmation that a subscription is active, which is stored on your device to unlock Pro features. Subscriptions can be managed or cancelled at any time in your device’s App Store settings.

Offline use

The app works fully offline. Analytics events are sent only when a connection is available.

Other permissions

The app requests nothing else: no camera, location, contacts or photo access.

Children

The app collects no personal information from anyone, including children.

This website

This site uses GoatCounter to count page views and clicks on the store buttons. GoatCounter sets no cookies and does not track you across sites; it records the page, the referring site, and your browser, screen size and country, which are aggregated into totals.

If you accept cookies in the banner, the site also uses Google Analytics, which sets cookies to measure visits, the pages you view and clicks on the store buttons. Google receives your IP address and browser information; see Google’s privacy policy. If you decline, no Google Analytics cookies are set. You can change your choice any time with “Cookie settings” at the bottom of every page.

Fonts are loaded from Google Fonts, which receives your IP address when your browser requests them.

Your choices

To have analytics data associated with your device’s random identifier deleted, email the developer and we will request deletion from Amplitude.

Changes

If a future version of the app changes any of the above, this policy will be updated before that version is released, and the change will be noted here.
